    Description

COMPLETE set of 1950s Louis Marx toy King Arthur armor, with box, in overall excellent condition. My brief description of each item as below:
    Helmet
is in near-perfect condition, not cracked, not faded. Paint is not chipped. Any worn spots in the paint were probably like that at the time of original purchase in the 1950s from original placement by factory in box. In short, the helmet is in its original condition.
    Shield
is similarly in excellent condition, no dents or damage. Color is bright, all imagery and Marx logo are crisp and clean. There are some minor paint anomalies and wear along the edges, but this is likely oxidation and age, not damage--again, in short, this item is in similar condition to the way it would have emerged from the box in 1950, some spots have just oxidized where edge rubs occurred at time of original manufacture and packing. It was made to be a kid's toy, not last the ages--but this one has lasted!
    Breastplate
is in same condition as shield--bright, crisp, not dented, not damaged. Some minor paint anomalies along the edges, likely present at manufacture, have oxidized but do not detract from the overall beautiful presentation of this item. Brown shoelaces placed in the shoulder/neck holes have degraded and left minor brown crusting near the holes. This would likely be removable with a gentle cleaning. White shoelaces on waist holes have not damaged the metal. Marx logo is clear and bright, as is all paint work.
    Scabbard
has a significant dent midway down. Otherwise it is in pristine condition with intact paint and the original vinyl belt loop is still soft, supple, not creased or torn. That's super rare for soft toy vinyl of this vintage.
    Excalibur sword
handle is in excellent condition. Shiny red paint still present on the "jewels" which is rare, this shiny paint is prone to peeling, fading, and chipping but here it is intact. Unfortunately the blade is warped and cracked. Clearly, the plastic blade was in the scabbard when weight was applied in storage, bending the blade along with the scabbard. The dent in the scabbard corresponds to the warped blade. The blade is almost cracked through, but is hanging on by a small bit of plastic on each end. Fine for display, and would remain intact if handled gently.
    Original cardboard box
included! The cardboard box is not in good condition, as it has been partially crushed and torn. However, it cardboard is dry and stable, not crumbling. Colors are still bright and not faded. One side, as shown in pics, is near complete and very displayable.
This is a very rare and collectible item. You're not going to find many of these complete with the original surviving cardboard box. I'll do my best to answer questions. My grandmother kept this in cool, dry storage conditions for almost 50 years. After her passing, my parents neglectfully left this item in a garage where, luckily, it escaped total damage. After recovering it, I'd like to do my grandmother's care justice by selling to a collector who will treasure and maintain this item.
If you have questions, I will do my best to answer. I will describe, in depth, any perceivable damage. Sometimes this makes it seem like the item is worse than it is. You can see, looking at the pics here, that this item is in overall excellent condition and will display beautifully. This will be the centerpiece of your 1950s Louis Marx toy collection.
